Stefanie Sherk was an Canadian actress, writer and producer. She portrayed Dr. Sonja Grant in Grand Hotel.


Early LifeEdit

Sherk was born in Ontario, Canada, and has one brother, Daniel. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an honors bachelor’s degree in history. She spent her third year abroad in the United Kingdom, studying at the University of London. Sherk then switched academic gears, pursuing a masters in depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in California. She later went on to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City where she developed her skills as an actress.


Sherk began her career as a co-host Gutter Ball in 2001. She then appeared in an array of television series, including #Hashtag: The Series, and guest starring in CSI: Cyber and NBC’s Telenovela. She has also appeared in movies, including The Bridge, Cyber Vice and Valentine's Day. In 2015, Sherk was featured in the movie Refugio.

As a writer, her work includes short stories, including Big Date in 2011 and The Sister in 2019. She also starred in her husband’s directorial debut “Un Cuento de Circo & A Love Song” in 2016.

Personal LifeEdit

Sherk was married to Demián Bichir from 2011, becoming a stepmother to his daughter, Gala, from his previous relationship, until her death in April 2019.


On April 12, 2019, Sherk was found by her husband at the bottom of the family’s swimming pool at the family’s Sherman Oaks home after he had returned from grocery shopping. Emergency responders were able to successfully resuscitate Sherk and transported her to a local hospital, where she spent the next 8 days in the hospital before passing away on April 20. Her death was ruled a suicide.
